What Does Ceramic Coating Do For My Car
With ceramic coatings becoming an ever more popular method for people to protect their cars, many people want to know what exactly is a ceramic coating?
In comparison to cars themselves, ceramic coating is a fairly new concept and one that not many people know much about, things like how ceramic coatings work to protect your vehicle, the advantages of investing in having your car protected by a ceramic coating, and much more.
We are going to cover a few of the many reasons why, at Keystone Detail, we believe ceramic coatings are the best way to effectively protect the paint of your car.
What Is A Ceramic Coating?
Much like more traditional methods of protecting your vehicle's paint such as waxes and sealants, a ceramic coating is simply an improved way to ensure that your car’s paint is protected from the elements and effortless to maintain.
That is about where the similarities come to an end between the ceramic coatings and the other two methods.
Waxes and sealants are meant to add another layer over top of the clear coat of your car’s finish and will wear over time as the elements break them down and washes are performed on the vehicle.
Ceramic coatings form a bond with the clear coat that hardens it and provides much longer-lasting protection.
Ceramic coatings make for the best way to protect your paint job because of this bond that forms with the clear coat. The hardened clear coat becomes scratch-resistant at this point and makes for much easier cleaning.

The Benefits Of Ceramic Coatings
As mentioned above, ceramic coatings offer an abundance of benefits that waxes and sealants can’t offer because they simply don’t last as long, nor are they able to bond with the clear coat on the molecular level like the ceramic coating is able to.
Hydrophobic - Once the ceramic coating has been applied to the car, you will notice water start to bead off of the car. This makes it much harder for things like mud and other debris to stick to the car.
Cleaning your car is made much easier because of this as well. Once you are done applying some water and car cleaning fluids, all that is left to do is simply blow dry the vehicle and wipe away and left over drips of water.
Scratch Resistance - Because the ceramic coat bonds with the clear coat and forms a hard protective layer.
The paint becomes much more scratch-resistant. This makes the paint much more durable and more resistant to things like road debris that can come off the road and hit your car as you drive.
Scratch resistance does not, however, mean that your car becomes immediately scratch proof. No type of paint protection offered is going to make your vehicle impossible to scratch, so just because you have ceramic coated your car- don’t go trying to scratch at it with a knife because it will still scratch if you try hard enough. The main resistance factor is against micro marring of the surface from things like microfibers and regular washes.
Insurance Covered - If ever you should find yourself in an accident after you’ve had your car ceramic coated, your insurance should cover it. The job of the insurance company is to make sure the car is returned to the condition it was in prior to the accident- meaning that they will reimburse you for the cost of the coating so you can have the ceramic reapplied after the car has been repaired.
